Real Homes: An Interview With @PortersHome
Back in February, we were over the moon to announce @portershome as the winner of our Home of the Month competition. As we restart our Real Homes series of blogs, we reached out to Emily, the brains behind this wonderful Instagram account, to give us some insight into her creative process, and what inspires her home’s stylish aesthetic.

What are your next plans for your home?
Now the brighter months are approaching we are focussing on doing up the garden which is exciting because it feels like an extension of the home!
How do you choose your window furnishings?
I love to frame a larger window with curtains, but always choose a wooden Venetian for a sleek, minimalist look.
If you had £10,000 to spend on interior design, what would you use it for and why?
I would use this towards the more expensive projects, such as the bathroom or the kitchen. You can create something spectacular with that amount of money!
What are your five top tips for someone planning on renovating their home?
Live there for a little while first to figure out what you actually want to do, you can always change your mind once you’ve got used to the space. Decorate the rooms you can go to, to relax at the end of the day first… and always take progress pictures!

How would you describe your interior style?
My design style is definitely an earthy tone colour palette, with lots of textures and a pop of colour! I am always wanting to switch up the styles at home, but I always draw back to this.
What has been the most exciting or challenging part of doing up your home?
This is our first home, so the experience of finally being able to create my visions has definitely been the most exciting part! We have recently finished our master bedroom which feels so serene now, I never went to leave! This is the room we incorporated the faux wooden white Venetian blinds and it finished the room off perfectly.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find a lot of inspiration from home accounts on Instagram which inspired me to start my own (@portershome). It is the best place to document the process.
Where do you shop for homeware?
I could spend hours in a Homesense store! (Which I sometimes do) … there is such a wide variety of decor, with unique pieces you can’t find anywhere else!
