May is here and with its arrival we’re one step closer to the lovely, bright days of summer! While we have a lot of exciting products, blogs and more coming to Blinds Direct this month, we wanted to showcase three of the best posts we’ve been tagged in in the past four weeks. Get comfy and prepare for some amazing interior design inspiration from April on Instagram.

Our favourite social posts from April

Throughout April, we’ve seen a fantastic selection of home images shared with us on Instagram. The use of colour, pattern and material has been truly inspirational and after a lot of deliberation, we’ve managed to pick our top three! Here they are…

A delightfully dark living room

Living rooms can be utilised for a range of purposes, from hosting friends and family to relaxing after a long week. As a result, they are one of those rooms where you’ll want to really master the decor and make the most of colours, patterns, and fabrics.

Using black as the dominant space in a living room is both bold and chic. This image from @Banishthebeige_ makes great use of black walls and related shades for cushions and picture frames. To make the most of this excellent colour, @Banishthebeige_ has also incorporated other dark shades including deep grey and inky blues to maintain the overall effect without overpowering the space.

There is also a remarkably chic combination of black Roman blinds with white window frames, coving and skirting boards that enriches the overall effect and stops it from being too dark. By adding finishing touches with the tall lamp and colourful pictures, the whole space comes together. To learn more about mastering dark decors, check out our Dark Academia blog!

A beautiful bedroom

We all want our bedrooms to be cosy spaces where we can kick back and relax. Lie ins, breakfast in bed and of course plenty of sleep are things we can all enjoy but to make sure we get the most from our bedrooms, using calming colours should be a top priority!

This bedroom by @1930s_doer_upper instantly caught our eye. By using soft natural tones from off white walls and green panelling to cool, casual curtains and light woods, this room emits a calming influence that’s perfect for bedtime.

The contrast between the powdery green grey of the panelling and the light cream walls creates a beautiful foundation from which @1930s_doer_upper has been able to add monochrome striped cushions, plush rusty red velvet pillows and plenty of luscious plants.

While much of the decor includes straight lines, the inclusion of made to measure curtains adds a casual wavy effect to the room creating a feeling of movement and comfort. The final touch of the beautiful patterned rug at the foot of the bed brings all the colours together and helps unify the overall theme.

Glamorous greens

Our final top pick from April is another bedroom, this time by @gooseberries_garrton and the first thing we noticed was the bold green wall. Feature walls, especially in bedrooms, are a fantastic way to add colour and a focal point without having to overdo the decor.

Green is a calming and relaxing colour – the perfect addition to a bedroom – but moreover, it is a fantastic complimentary colour allowing stylish decorators to add extra details to the design. Take for instance the dusky pink chair next to the window, and the soft pale grey accessories. These colours enhance the green wall while adding depth and interest to the bedroom – they look beyond beautiful when featured together.

Tying them all together is the use of pristine whites found on the walls, bedside tables, bedding and of course the stylish white shutter attached to the window. Shutters are an excellent choice for fresh looking bedrooms as they can let in fresh air and light while keeping your privacy from the outside world. What’s more, they look effortlessly stylish and are the perfect finishing touch to many decor styles. Learn more about shutters in our Plantation Shutters blog.
