We’re excited to introduce interior design fanatic and influencer Laurie @missrosehome, who has kindly taken part in our latest Instagram interview.

Laurie’s sleek and feminine home has commanded a large and loyal following on Instagram. Fresh and luxurious, Laurie blends neutral grey and white backdrops with beautiful textures and the occasional pop of pink, creating a coherent and contemporary feeling.

We sat down with Laurie and asked her some questions about her home, where she finds inspiration, and her next interior design plans…

How would you describe your interior design style?

I think my design style is very neutral and feminine, but I feel my taste changes all the time… which is not ideal for my bank account.

What was your first project in your current house?

Our house is a new build so every room was a blank canvas and quite easy to make our own, but the first main project we had was redoing the main bathroom. My partner is a bathroom fitter so he is very good at knowing what looks good together and using the space efficiently. He completely changed the look of the room; when we moved in, it was a basic bathroom that hadn’t been completed to a very good standard, and now it feels like a bathroom I used to dream of!

What was the most exciting or challenging part of doing up your home?

There hasn’t really been anything too challenging whilst doing up our home, but it was particularly exciting for me when we both agreed we could build a feature wall in the living room. I had always wanted a false chimney breast wall with an electric fire built into it, and when it was finished I fell in love with it instantly. I’m such an autumn-winter person so it gives the that cosy feeling during the colder months.

Where do you find inspiration?

Instagram, without a doubt! I get the odd idea from Pinterest but I really love browsing everyone’s homes on Instagram as its easy to find out where people have purchased things.

Where do you shop for homeware?

Mainly Homesense, I love that there are new things in there everyday and I think the prices are very reasonable. I also love Matalan, Tesco and Dunelm.

What are your next plans for your home?

We haven’t got any plans coming up. We ideally want to move in a few years, and as we are happy with how our home is looking at the moment, it would be silly to spend more money on it. I can’t wait to be able to plan out what I want in our next home (if were lucky enough to be able to move!)

How do you choose your window treatments?

In the past, I have had some bad quality curtains and they have made me end up disliking the whole room. They were changed for a very good quality pair from Blinds Direct and the difference was unbelievable. I think curtains are a good investment and it’s not worth going with cheaper ones if they aren’t going to complement the room. I am also very picky with colours, and so I definitely look for a company that can provide a BIG range of colours and shades. Being able to get fabric samples sent out to me is something i’d definitely need before purchasing any curtains.

If you had £10,000 to spend on interior design, what would it be and why?

Tough one! I’m such a bargain hunter it would be really hard for me to spend that much on one item – I’d much rather buy a few cheaper items. If I had to choose though, I think it would be a sofa. I remember when we went sofa shopping before we moved in and it took me ages to decide on one because there was always something wrong with it and I felt like I ended up settling for one I wasn’t 100% on. Fast forward to now, and I am really not keen on the sofa we picked so it would be good to be able to get one tailor made to fit in with my home.

What are your top tips for someone planning on renovating their home?

Do it bit by bit. Don’t try to do it all at once. Pick a room to focus on, plan out what you what to do with it and go from there. Once that room is completed you can move on and save up to do the next room. Tastes are always changing, and you may get to decorating a room and have a completely different plan for it than you would have had 6 months ago.

A great big thank you to Laurie for sharing this with us. We are so pleased that she collaborated with Blinds Direct and now showcases our gorgeous Asami Blush Curtains in her home.
