If you love the coastal look as much as we do today’s deep dive will be for you! In this blog we’ll be looking at inspiration from below the waves to create an under the sea inspired decor which you and any visitors will love. Living under the sea would no doubt be a peaceful place and it’s easy to believe that we would have a whale of a time living below the waves. With that in mind, let’s submerge ourselves into the depths and create a truly striking underwater inspired look…

Under the sea decor ideas

Transforming your home into an underwater inspired world can be an exciting renovation as it allows the mind to wonder and creativity to flow. Capturing the essence of the Poseidon’s realm is perfect for bathrooms and bedrooms, as the striking colourways create an energising space, making the room feel alive yet calming. You can even implement touches of Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid to make it all the more fitting for the kids!

Colours of the sea

The marine world is an explosion of colour, from the rich corals we see on reefs, to the gradients of blues we see as the sea gets deeper. Selecting the right tones for an underwater world is a fun process and gives you the ability to play around with a range of ideas. Let’s get started and explore the top colours to reimagine life under the waves.

The deep blue

Recreate the tranquillity of the world below the waves by implementing a range of blues into your home from pale teals to deep navy’s. Whether you decide to do a DIY paint job of creating a gradient from light to dark on the walls, or settle for a mural of an underwater scene, encapsulating the room in a range of blue shades will work together to make a calming and comforting space..

Fully encapsulate the room in a blue lagoon by dressing the windows with blue Venetian blinds. They are a modern and sleek addition to the space and the slats allow for natural light to filter through, casting shadows in the space like that of shadows on the ocean floor, perfect for bringing the space alive! Alternatively, capture the movement of the waves with a quality blue curtain.

Collection of corals

Coral is one of the most eye-catching colours we see in the vast ocean as it contrasts so elegantly against the blue backdrop. This strong accent colour is ideal to use in predominantly blue rooms as the orange undertones create a warming atmosphere and help to add depth to the space. For more on how to implement coral into your home read  our The Power of Coral in Interior Design blog.

Shifting shades of sand

Venturing away from the depths and back towards the shoreline, we start to see strong implementations of sandy tones and ochres. Complementing and contrasting against the blues, like coral, these shades add a warming atmosphere to the space.

Implement accents of ochres to the space via yellow lamp shades and yellow cushions to bring some panache into the home, just make sure not to go overboard and recreate the colour scheme of a blue tang fish.

Sea life patterns and shapes

Life takes many forms under the waves, and implementing many of them into your home allows for a truly spectacular display. From the iconic orange, white and black stripes of a clownfish to the irregular shapes of coral, getting creative with this vast selection allows you to design your dream underwater look.

Fintastic fish

From seahorses to puffer fish, selecting your preferred fishy friend to bring into your home decor might feel daunting, but it shouldn’t!. Our Shallows collection is an ideal example for creating a strong underwater theme. With a range of colourways to select from, these friendly fish inspired furnishings will have you feeling submerged into the aquatic life.

Chic seashells

Recreating an underwater theme gives decorators various shapes and scales to play with, just like that of seashells. Bringing shell shapes into the home will create a delicate aesthetic while implementing a range of patterns and colours; they can even create a 1920s look with art deco shell prints. The Rock Pool collection showcases a range of shells from clams to limpets and more, perfect for bathrooms where a strong connection to water is present.

Mythical creatures

Verging more on the fantasy side of things, mythical sea creatures are another fabulous way to create that fairytale underwater world. With the live action remake of The Little Mermaid coming out next year, why not get your little ones excited with the addition of our Mermaid Party collection, the perfect addition to children’s’ bedrooms and playrooms!

Creating an underwater inspired decor can be done in a variety of ways, whether you want to recreate the essence of marine life or indulge into the mythical side of the ocean, we have a range of furnishings to suit your preferred style. With the option of ordering up to 8 free samples, creating your perfect underwater theme has never been easier.
