This week sees the hotly anticipated return of the Royal Chelsea Flower Show, a celebrated event that goes back 110 years. Honouring the natural world and the beauty it offers, this year’s Royal Chelsea Flower Show features some striking colours, materials, and themes. Many of these components will be perfect inspiration for use in the home so let’s see what interior design ideas might bloom from this year’s show!

Themes from Chelsea Flower Show 2023

This year’s Chelsea Flower Show explores an amazing selection of topics and challenges facing people around the world.

From the Samaritans’ sponsored listening garden to the garden for visually impaired people sponsored by Hampden featuring “the calming sound of running water and the scent of plants creating the feeling of being immersed in nature,” there are some truly innovative approaches to garden design.

Owing to the mass of colours, textures and philosophies underpinning this year’s show, stylish decorators can find a wealth of inspiration for transforming their homes into places that are calming, pleasant, and sophisticated. While you can of course find some idyllic floral patterns for your home, you can take a more theoretical approach keeping with block colours and materials. These are some of the standout takeaways from the 2023 Royal Chelsea Flower Show.

Bloomin’ fabulous flowers

The core of any Chelsea Flower Show is of course the flowers. Interestingly, this year has celebrated some often-underrated plants from wildflowers, pioneer plants and even weeds.

With a popular trend centred around nature reclaiming environments, these flowers are planted in often loose formations, adding a striking organic effect to many gardens. From a colour perspective, classic white petals can be spotted surrounded by noble purples, joyful pinks and in some instances, even energetic yellows and vibrant oranges

Blue is also a welcomed addition to many of the gardens, but so too is the amount of green on display. Grass, of varying lengths, leaves and of course stems dominate many vignettes. To capture a garden feel inside your home, start with green as a core part of your foundation and introduce colour in spots around the room.

Style with stone

While the Chelsea Flower Show is obviously well known for its use of flowers, we must not miss the amazing use of stone. By using stone so much, many of the talented gardeners from this year’s event have been able to provide a natural shade against which the greens of the stems and grass, plus the flowers themselves can contrast.

Natural stone grey tones provide a soft foundation from which a stylish interior design trend can grow.  Like flowers growing between the cracks in a flagstone, grey in interior design allows you to break up the theme of your decor introducing depth and sophistication.

Much of the stone used in these gardens was presented in very angular shapes – why not capture that style with stylish grey Roman blinds and plump cushions scattered around your home?

Wonderful woods

Wood takes a central role in a great many exhibitions at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show. With strategically placed logs, broken branches and living pieces featuring in several entries, wood is at the top of many gardeners’ agendas.

In much of the subtext, wood is used to represent the dangers of environmental decline while reminding us of the beauty of this magical material. Fortunately, those readers looking to add natural wood into their home without significantly impacting mother nature can use responsibly sourced woods to enjoy striking effects.

At Blinds Direct, all our Wooden Venetian blinds and shutters are handmade from natural woods that are only sourced from ethically managed forests. As a result, you can enjoy the beauty of wood in your home without worrying about contributing to unmanaged deforestation.

Once again there are some amazing landscapes showcased at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show. From bold oranges to cool rockeries, there is an exciting array of options for you to consider for your home. How will you incorporate these beautiful gardens into your own interior design?
