In recent months we’ve looked at using animals, fruits and vegetables as inspiration for interior design, but what about fungi? A well curated mushroom decor will feature appealing colours, shapes and add a whimsical twist to any space. So, what are the best ways to enjoy mushroom decor? Read on to find out and learn how you can become an interior design champignon…

How to create a mushroom decor

Mushroom interior design isn’t strict and grows around fun. Popular particularly amongst younger people, mushroom decors fall into two chic categories. The first showcases mushrooms in all their glory while the second is a little softer and is instead more loosely inspired by mushrooms. Let’s start with the former.

Adding mushrooms to your interior design

Mushrooms are becoming popular for a few reasons, but two of the most obvious ones relate to shape and colour.

The combination of rounded tops with straight lines makes mushrooms stand out from traditional geometric or spot designs and offer something truly unique. At Blinds Direct, we have several exciting mushroom fabrics in a range of colours and styles. Looking for a cushion with myriad mushrooms on it? Check out our Cath Kidston Mini Mushrooms Multi Cushion. If you’re seeking a fabric that’s a little darker but equally fun for a child’s bedroom, you could even consider a Sonova Studio Forager Charcoal Roman Blind

Part of our inhouse design studio Sonova Studio, you can also enjoy the Sonova Forager pattern in a lighter colour palette Sonova Studio Forager Ecru Roman Blind. Both fabrics are unique to Blinds Direct!

By adding mushroom patterns to your interior design, you can enjoy something a little different that isn’t over the top, and while fun, is certainly still stylish. That said, literal interpretations of mushrooms aren’t your only option.

Marvellous mushroom colours

Mushroom colours often conjure up images of soft creamy browns, off white and taupe. While inherently warming, mushroom colours are also fresh and welcoming making them perfect options for living rooms and bedrooms. With neutral colours growing in popularity, particularly the new neutrals we explored in March, now is clearly the time to look at mushroom colours for your home!

For example, take inspiration from the warming yellow shades of chanterelle or the contrasting brown and cream tones of a porcini. By choosing colours from the world of mushrooms, you can cultivate a decor that’s comfortable, warming and fun.

That said, mushroom colours aren’t limited to soft neutrals, there’s also the famous red and white Fly Agaric. Popular in pictures of gnomes pottering around in a fairy tale or the characters and boosts found in Super Mario, these red and white toadstools offer some great colour options which you can enjoy in your home. Take for instance the Spotty Gingersnap Roman Blind. This fashionable furnishing features white spots set against a red backdrop and captures the jolly aesthetic of these mushrooms easily.

Mushrooms are incredible living things and brimming with inspiration for interior design. How will you use them in your home? On the windows, inspiring the colour palette of your living room, or simply in a delicious risotto?
