Skylights are a fabulous, elegant detail added to many homes around the world. Letting in light and a view of the stars at night, skylights offer a fantastic alternative to traditional windows, but like standard windows, they do need blinds. Skylight blinds are available in a variety of colours and styles and today, we’ll be exploring some of the best options for your consideration. Need skylight blinds for your home? Read on…

What are skylight blinds?

Skylight blinds are a must for any roof windows. Fitting seamlessly into your home’s skylights, these specialist blinds are very easy to choose and then fit! Moreover, since they’re made by our talented team here in Yorkshire, you know you will receive a high-quality product that will stand the test of time. At Blinds Direct, we offer skylight blinds in a great variety of colours from classic charcoals and creams through to more vibrant shades including reds and blues. What’s more, we also offer patterned skylight blinds which feature a night sky – these are the ideal choice for star gazing children! For more information about skylight blinds, read our handy Buyer’s Guide For Roof Blinds.

What are the different styles of skylight blinds?

While colour and pattern are important considerations for your skylight blinds, they are not the only options available.

At Blinds Direct, our range of quality skylight blinds are available in a range of specialist fabrics to suit your exact requirements. Let’s start with opacity.

Depending on your needs, you can select dimout fabric, which is ideal for living spaces, or blackout which will help you relax and sleep better if your bedroom has roof windows. Beyond the light blocking capabilities, you can also consider additional options such as flame retardant, eco-friendly or moisture proof – an ideal choice for bathrooms or kitchens where there’s lots of steam!

Are skylight blinds safe for children?

As we’ve said, skylights are an excellent choice for styling a kid’s bedroom, but are they safe for children? In short, yes – skylight blinds are perfectly safe for children.

There are many styles of window furnishings that feature chains or chords, but skylight blinds don’t feature either making them an even safer option for children.

Regardless of the blind style you pick, at Blinds Direct we provide all the relevant child safety features to ensure your little ones can explore their space in a safe and comfortable way. You can learn more about child safety and window furnishings in our Child Safety Week And Window Furnishings blog.

What skylight brands can you fit blinds to?

There is a varied and diverse selection of skylights on the market, and we offer all our skylight blinds for a fantastic selection of window models.

On the website, you can find skylight blinds for Velux, Fakro, RoofLITE and Dakstra. To make sure you find the right product, all you need to do is find the product code found on the window and click the right choice on the website! This means you don’t have to worry about measuring your windows, simply let us know the model number, and we’ll take it from there.

Simply open the window and look for the small metal patch near the top. This should include the brand name and a product code, for instance “GGU” and “C01”, or “78×98”. The code identifies your model of skylight, which will then inform the blind you will need.

You can learn more about skylight blinds on the website and if you need more help, you can always contact our friendly customer service team and they’ll be happy to help. Don’t forget, to ensure you find the perfect blind for your decor, you can order up to eight free samples from the website!
