Blackout blinds for children

As the new school term draws closer, ensuring your little ones are getting the right amount of sleep becomes even more important. But children aren’t the only ones who need good sleep – it’s vital for all of us, no matter our age.

According to experts from the Sleep Foundation, newborn babies require 14-17 hours of sleep per day, infants need 12-15 hours, and toddlers should be getting 11-14. Young children are then recommended between 10 and 13 hours of sleep, while school-age children need 9-11 and teenagers can manage on 8-10. Once we hit adulthood, the recommended hours of sleep drop to 7-9 per day. Our required rest continues to decline as we get older, with elderly people only needing 7-8 per day.

The importance of a good nights sleep

Many of us don’t get the recommended amount of sleep. Some causes of this include insomnia, snoring, chronic pain, stress and worries. When we don’t get enough sleep, we’re at risk of a variety of health conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and heightened stress levels. If you don’t get enough quality sleep each, you’ll also start to notice dwindling concentration, memory and reaction levels. It’s easy to see why our sleep is so important!

How to improve your sleep through blackout blinds

One of the easiest ways to improve your sleep is to invest in a high quality blackout blind. This will block out all light and ensure your bedroom is a dark, peaceful space that encourages sleep. You’ll also benefit from additional privacy, as our blackout lining prevents shadows and outlines from being seen from outside. Whether you wish your little one would nap better, you live on a busy and well-lit street, or you’re fed up of being woken at the crack of dawn, our range of blackout blinds is the perfect solution.

Take a look at our luxurious Roman blinds, which can be finished with free blackout lining in either white or ivory. Or explore our range of blackout roller blinds, a practical and durable design that’s ideal for kids’ rooms. If you have larger windows and like the traditional look, our blackout vertical blinds are a good choice, with each louvre providing privacy and protection from light outside. Or maybe curtains are more suitable for your room? Our collection of made to measure designs are fully lined with blackout lining – for free.

When we sleep well, we #WakeUpWell which improves our attention span, memory and performance in a variety of tasks, including school, work and sport. We find it easier to maintain a healthy weight and blood pressure. Our well-rested bodies and minds will also be more successful in learning new things and completing complicated tasks.
