With the end of summer looming, a shift within interior decor styles has become apparent. With darker shades being increasingly implemented, it’s clear that we  are getting ready for the colder months. Nonetheless, we grasp at what is left of the summer as our social snapshot images for this month showcases the evolution from the last of the summer rays, to prepping for the cold…

The August collection

With the end of August fast approaching, and preparation for bracing the colder months of the year taking centre stage, this month’s social snapshot demonstrates the transition from capturing the last vestiges of summer through to adding cosy and luxurious furnishings to retain the warmth in winter. Golden hour glow

Capturing the golden hour glow – that magical time of day when everything is bathed in a warming celestial gold – may be a phenomenon for achieving that flawless selfie, but it’s oddly missed for photographing our homes. Well, @talesofelsewhere has seized the opportunity and captured this glow within their home, creating a space filled with warmth and charm. The warming tint of this image is what initially caught our eye however, when looking at the textures, patterns and colours used within this space, our love for the image deepened. @talesofelsewhere has created the perfect harmony of pattern combination, as the fusion between the geometric inspired patterns with the modern slats found in the white Venetian blinds creates an ambiance ideal for relaxing in. The colour palette within this space also emphasises the golden hour glow as the warming shades of yellows, creams and taupe’s enrich the glow provided by final summer rays, transforming this room into a sanctuary.

This space will also double up for getting cosy during the colder months of the year. The key to capturing a warming feel within in a space is working with colours that have rich, warm undertones, such as the ones seen in this image. Other colours that will also feel as though they retain heat are oranges and reds. All these colours complement both sides to the British climate, by maximising the warmth emitted in the summer and retaining the heat during the winter.

Crisp and clean

From a golden hour glow to a clean look with navy accents, we now dip our toe into the water of cooler colours in interior design.

@ourbelmont_home captures the fresh feeling of summer with the crisp bright walls and sleek dining table in this space. Moreover, they have also thought about ways in keeping this space warm during the colder months by injecting navy velvet in through the dining chairs and barstools, alongside a textured rug. Ensuring a space adapts to and complements the UK climate is vital to keeping the calming, inviting sense a home is meant to have, and we have to admit, @ourbelmont_home has achieved that goal with this room.

The overall appeal of this image initially came from the sleek, immaculate appearance of this space. From the angular edges of the dining table to the perfectly level pendant lighting, and even the discreet perfect fit blinds on the French doors, creating an eye-catching room. @ourbelmont_home has made a cleaver choice when selecting perfect fit pleated blinds as their main window covering. Not only are they a discreet yet stylish window dressing, they also provide many functional qualities, thermal being one. Thermal materials work at both keeping the heat in during winter, but also keeping the heat out in summer without compromising on style!

Seasons through styling

@mrshareloves’ styling within her dining room captures the essence of summer, with the option of transforming it into a winter wonderland; a simple way of achieving this transition would be to simply swap out the bouquet of flowers on the grand dining table with a more festive arrangement and just like that, the dynamic within the room changes instantly.

The colour palette within this dining room is also a strong choice for ensuring it accommodates both the summer and winter months of the year with pale blue-grey on the walls accented with navy blue in the roller blind at the window – and the deep blue glasses situated on the table. The lighter shades on the walls assist in keeping the space feeling bright and fresh over the warmer months and the size of this room will help capture the summer glow, making hosting dinner parties a summer speciality. On the other hand, the rich dark wood of the table and chairs, paired with the navy roller blind and darker accessories will keep the space feeling homely and inviting in the winter months.

@mrshareloves’ dining room initially caught our eye as the contrast between the colours and textures within the room play to one another’s strengths, all being powerful within their own right, but not domineering. Creating a space that can transition throughout the varying UK seasons will have your home be the go-to place of relaxation and celebrations!

Dark and indulgent

Creating an indulgent living room to snuggle down in is exactly what @ourlittletwobed has achieved. The strong navy blue on the walls cocoons us in a blanket of warmth and comfort, while the texture from the cushions brings a softness to the space, aiding in our relaxation. This living room is the perfect place to snuggle in for the evening as the shorter nights approach. However, it still has elements within that complement summer, such as the natural linen lamp shade. This brings a fresh, timeless appearance to the room along with enriching the golden hue produced by the summer light.

Another key element within this room that accommodates the summer months is the metal Venetian blind. The glistening metal works in a mirror like way, reflecting the suns rays around the space, naturally enhancing the light levels in the room, while the blinds are open. However, as we have just experienced with the heatwave – blocking out the suns rays to keep the room cool is very important.  Metal Venetian blinds will aid in this by refracting the light away from the space when the blinds are closed.

This living room has captured elements that complement the varying seasons we get in the UK from, keeping a space cosy and inviting for the colder months to keeping it bright, fresh, and cool for the summer months.

Despite certain colours being renowned for warmer climates and cooler climates, we can see through this month’s Social Snapshot selection that colour is more flexible than we might have thought. It plays a vital role in the overall ambiance of a room, but styling items and window covers are what really elevates a space.
