Animal interior design

Animals bring joy and happiness to a huge number of people around the world. We bring them into our families as pets, we enjoy seeing them in the wild and we use them to represent characteristics we admire as people. In this blog, we’ll show you how to incorporate some animal interior design into your home that will look stylish and whether you’re busy as a beaver or quiet as a mouse, make your space homely without having to resort to some gross animal heads from the olden days.

It’s a jungle out there

Whether you’re watching your favourite sports team, Game of Thrones or pottering around a local museum you’ll notice animal insignia left, right and centre. Strong and noble creatures have been a part of the human psyche for centuries and even today they are a popular look for style-conscious decorators. What’s even better is you don’t need a coat of arms to display your favourite beast, you can use a lamp shade, cushion, blind or curtain just as easily.

Working well with a range of interior design trends from Cottagecore to traditional, incorporating different powerful wild animals from stags to tigers will add a strong yet classy statement to any room.

A top tip is to try and use a colour palette that works well with the animal in question. For example, the Stag Grey Roman Blind combines the profile of a noble stag with a natural tone that mirrors it’s habitat. Alternatively, you could be more literal and opt for a Bengal Tiger Safari Curtain which features a striking big cat with leafy undergrowth.

Forget the bear necessities – the more the merrier

For those who have a Dr. Doolittle attitude to animals, you don’t need to pick one creature and stick with it – you can pick an item that’s jampacked with critters.

Whether you’re looking for woodland creatures, a vista of the savannah, or something more tropical; the options are almost limitless.

The animals can be cartoon or lifelike and having a selection of different species showcased in your home will increase the fun of the space, making them the perfect choice for kids’ bedrooms and play areas. Alternatively, if you’re an adult who just loves animals and wants a light-hearted ambience in your home, they will work equally well for you!

These printed materials look great as blinds, curtains, cushions, or lampshades and are best used in spaces with a minimalist décor to contrast with.

Playful prehistorics

You don’t have to just consider creatures you can find on Earth today – there is a lot of fun that can be had with dinosaurs!

Whether its Barney or Jurassic Park, dinosaurs have captivated the minds of millions of kids around the world. As a result, they are the perfect addition to any budding palaeontologist’s bedroom or play area.

At Blinds Direct we have a wide range of dinosaur related items featuring favourites including Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops and Stegosaurus. Featuring bright colours and fun shapes, a dinosaur-inspired blind will encourage your child’s imagination and may inspire them one day to unearth a new species!

Helping animals in the real world

Animals can be used to great effect in the design of your home. They can be inspiring and elegant stags, humorous cartoon foxes or whacky prehistoric lizards but you can also do something to help our planet’s living, breathing wildlife.

Every year, one animal out of an estimated 8.7 million species uses 500 billion plastic bottles. As a minimum, less than half of those are recycled, leaving the rest to fill our waters and landfill sites.

Those that end up in the sea often choke marine animals or gets ingested and enters the food chain causing damage to everything from seagulls to seals; pelicans to people. To help keep our junk out of the sea, consider a blind made from recycled plastic bottles. While none of these materials currently feature any animals, you can rest assured that the stylish item keeping external light out of your home is safely doing a new job, not bobbing around the ocean potentially causing damage. You can browse our recycled products here and view some of our recycled Roman blinds below.

To help you consider some animal-themed items for inclusion in your home we’ve created a dedicated animal interior design collection for you to browse. All our items are made by an elite team of craftspeople here in the hearth of Yorkshire and I’m sure you’ll enjoy them as much as we do!
