Grey has dominated the world of interior design for a long time, and it’s showing no signs of slipping into obscurity. While grey will add a beautiful edge to any space in the home, it’s particularly powerful in living rooms! If you want to discover some new grey living room ideas, this blog is one for you.

Why pick a grey living room

There is an exceptional array of grey shades that you can add to a living room to transform its style and beauty. From fresh feeling light greys all the way through to deep, contemplative shades of anthracite, grey will provide you with a dependable foundation that you can use in a multitude of stylish ways. These are our top grey living room ideas…

Two tone grey living room

When we look at colours for interior design on the blog, we often look at the other colours that best compliment the given topic, but one of the best colours to use with grey is other shades of grey!

The best grey shades to choose

Take for instance bisected walls. You can paint the bottom half of your wall in a warm, bluish dark grey and the top half in a fresher, light shade for an incredible, extremely modern finish to your living room. If, however, you prefer to have a single grey shade on the wall, you could add a contracting grey shade within the window recess. Light walls with a dark grey curtain suspended from a curtain pole that matches the skirting boards will manifest a very chic aesthetic. Conversely, if you have dark grey walls, a pale grey Roman blind or grey roller blind fitted inside the recess will look equally stylish.

Grey accessories

Don’t forget about your grey accessories too! Grey lamp shades and grey cushions that contrast with the grey walls will add a feeling of depth and perspective to your living room. If you’re attracted to this idea, we suggest selecting pale grey walls and adding dark grey accessories.

Which colours go best with grey living rooms?

While grey and grey is great, there are plenty of other colour options that look fantastic with different shades of grey. So, let’s look at three of the best colours that go with your grey living room!

1. Grey and White living rooms

Pristine shades of white combined with cool mid tone greys will create a timelessly chic space. This striking duet teams well with another fashionable choice that’s taking the design world by storm – blonde woods! Grey and white creates a peaceful, tranquil environment making it a great choice for any living room. Feel free to further enrich the space with small, well-calculated use of earthy natural tones to enjoy a scandi effect.

2. Grey and Pink living rooms

Another exciting option for using medium tones of grey, especially those with a slight bias to the light, warmer side of the spectrum, is pink. One of the benefits of using pink with grey is that you can use different shades, from dusky tones to fruity hues at leisure. If your home is more traditional, dusky pinks will be the best option, while juicy, brighter alternatives are that bit more contemporary and youthful. Pink is an extremely cosy colour which is ideal for living rooms!

3. Grey and Yellow living rooms

If you’re looking for a colour with a bit more vibrancy that energises and boosts happiness, look no further than hues of golden yellow. Yellow and grey go together very well within living rooms, especially juicy yellows mixed with mid to light tone greys. To add that perfect finish to your decor, look to incorporate grey and yellow into patterns that also include white. There are plenty of options to consider from stripes to checks that will always look fun and energetic.

Metallic Grey in the living room

Metallic grey shades are perfect for living rooms as they add a bit of sparkle and shimmer without demanding too much attention from the overall effect of the space. The popularity of metallic tones is rooted in their ability to interact beautifully with light. This is particularly important for grey living rooms as the shimmer and glint will help make the space feel magical year-round.

There are some dynamic shades of silver you can find on the Blinds Direct website, for instance the Silver Birch Warm Grey Roman Blind and Milan Silver Curtain. These pale fabrics will work perfectly with all three of the top colour combinations listed above!

That said, there are other shades of metallic grey that you can use remarkably well in living rooms. Shades closer to iron and pewter – such as our Venice Pewter Roman Blind – will fill the same role as dark non-metallic greys. If you don’t want a metallic fabric, but like the idea of a bit of sparkle, you can consider adding a brushed silver inner to a lamp shade of any colour.

Grey living rooms are chic and open an amazing array of opportunities for adding other colours, patterns and even glittering metallics. To find the perfect grey addition for your living room, explore our wide range of options on the webstore!
